Overstayed visa
I'm in the process of applying for a business visa. Was planning to leave SA tomorrow for a few days, but just looked at my visa today and realised that I have already overstayed by 3 days! I thought I had a week left!

Anyway, not sure if I should leave to Botswana tomorrow and risk getting into trouble a few days later when I return to SA (hopefully they re-issue me with a new 3 month visa) or wait till I leave home to Europe at the end of the month. Is the fine the same if I overstay by 4 days as opposed to 3 weeks? If I have overstayed my visa, will I have a problem the next time I re-enter the country on a tourist visa?

I think you will just be hit with a small fine and should be fine as it's only a few days over your stay. But call Lucas Khiba - he does permit expediting - and ask him what he thinks. He's on 072 353 4664.

You will be fined on exit, but reentry into the Country without a new visa application depends on your nationality. If you are visa exempt, you can reenter at the border for a specified period: if not, you will need to do an application in your home country and then reenter.

Border hopping is frowned upon (ie going to a neighbouring state for a few days and then reentering) and may resullt in you being given a notice to report to Home Affiars in SA with 7-14 days to do the appropriate application.
